Our President 2008, Dennis Bailey President’s message The Alabama Association of Arson Investigators is dedicated to promoting and providing arson related education along with deterring and combating arson related crimes. As we know, the act of arson endangers innocent individuals along with our first responders. It also has substantial effects on the insurance industry and policyholders. In 2008, adjustable rate mortgages, the rise in home foreclosures and a potential recession may increase the number of arson related cases. Due to this, fire investigators must have a heightened level of alertness as desperate individuals may employ creative means in setting fires. The FBI reports in the Uniform Crime Report (2006) that 69,055 arson fires were reported by 13,325 reporting agencies. Not all agencies report to the UCR program. As one can easily see, the arson rate continues to grow each year. AAAI continues to provide training and resources to help combat arson. We also have a great group of individuals as officers and members with a wealth of knowledge and experience. If you are not already a part of AAAI, I ask that you consider joining. As AAAI continues to grow, we ask for your input on how the organization can better serve you and its members. We are currently comprised of public and private fire investigators. Our membership also includes attorneys, insurance professionals and special investigators. If you have a comment or suggestion, feel free to contact me or any of the other officers of AAAI. Your input is valued! Several of the goals we would like to accomplish this year include adding a member’s login to the AAAI website with investigative resources, providing fire investigation seminars, quarterly news letters, reaching out to our volunteer fire departments and continuing our public service announcement program. AAAI is great organization with a great cause. We look forward to working with you in 2008.
